CLIENT BRIEF
RTP Surveyors were appointed by trustees to provide architectural and building surveying services for the repair and refurbishment of various dilapidated barn ranges at a Grade II Listed estate associated with the birthplace of Sir Francis Drake. The commission included design development, Listed Building and Building Regulations applications, and Contract Administration services during the construction phase.

KEY CONSIDERATIONS
The existing barn structures were in a dilapidated condition, requiring careful assessment of retained historic fabric and appropriate intervention strategies.

Given the Grade II Listed status of the estate, all proposed works required a sensitive approach to repair and alteration, ensuring that interventions were compatible with the historic agricultural character of the buildings.

The design development process required balancing structural repair needs with conservation requirements, alongside coordination of statutory approvals under Listed Building Consent and Building Regulations.

OUTCOME
