With a historic mill and stone house as original structures in an idyllic setting, The Mill House Inn at Trebarwith (part of Experience Hotels) has a reputation for first class food and hospitality, confirmed by their top 5 rating by the Observer (category; places to dine in Cornwall in the summer of 2006). The clients wished to extend their successful restaurant facility in a tasteful and complimentary style.

The project has been successfully completed, with the new restaurant opening for business in July 2008. Additional landscaping and drainage works are being undertaken to provide ample car parking space, whilst also complimenting the ecology of the area.

Our role

RTP undertook the design, specification and contract administration of the new restaurant extension. This included obtaining planning and building control permissions. Construction Design & Management Co-ordination was also provided by the practice.

Liaison with the Environment Agency has assisted an ecological approach to the diversion of a stream, with improved wildlife value and long-term assistance for natural drainage. Its final site will provide an interesting amenity to the view from the restaurant whilst also re-establishing historic context to the water-mill.

Statement

Our main achievement in this project was liaising successfully with a wide range of professionals in a demanding timescale, but retaining high quality output.
