Professional Service: Architectural Services
Domestic Client, Porthpean
For this residential property dating from the late 1800’s, the clients wanted to undertake an extensive refurbishment to update and modernise the house into luxurious spacious accommodation. The project included demolition of previous extensions and the construction of an Orangery on the side of the building, which incorporates a kitchen/diner, along with a two storey extension to the rear. An improved driveway was also required to lead to an oak clad garage with stores, along with a boiler house and log store, and newly landscaped gardens. This brief overview sounds straightforward, but this was quite a complex and rewarding project for Andrew Miller, who was the lead Surveyor on the project.
The works to the property progressed smoothly, which was as a result of careful planning along with thorough construction detailing. A well was discovered once work had begun, which would not usually be an issue but in this case its position coincided with the line of the foundations for the rear extension. With a little engineering thought, and consultation with both client and contractor, the well was saved and is now in use.
The works were completed on time with many original features of the building retained and enhanced for future enjoyment of the guests. The project was equally challenging and a pleasure to be involved with, and both the client and RTP Surveyors are thrilled with the finished result.
